Flyover, the latest of Pursuit’s flying theatres, is now officially open in Chicago. The announcement for the new location was made in 2022, scheduling its grand opening for the autumn of 2023. However, unforeseen circumstances led to a delay of six months. Fortunately for residents of Chicago, the wait is over. As of yesterday, the experience is now open for all to enjoy.

Flyover in Chicago marks the fifth installation of the Brogent i-Ride for Pursuit, previously opening locations in Canada (2013), America (2016), Iceland (2019) and Las Vegas (2021). FlyOver Chicago replaces the Navy Pier IMAX film theatre, which was operated by AMC Theatres. It opened back in 1995 and was closed in March 2021 due to financial troubles at the company following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The Navy pier is the biggest tourist destination in Chicago, receiving over 9 million visitors each year in its shops, restaurants and attractions. The addition of the new flying theatre enhances the current array of amusement offerings at the pier, which already includes several rides such as a ferris wheel, drop tower, and wave swinger.

In Flyover Chicago guests are taken on a whirlwind tour around the North American city. During the development of the new experience extra attention was paid to what distinguishes Chicago from other cities in the US. Music plays a central role in this experience explains Flyover Chicago’s director David Mossop: “Chicagoan music is diverse. And this score brings together a lot of the rich history of Chicago’s musical influence into one powerful and visceral experience.” The score incorporates compositions from both renowned musicians like Elliott Wheeler and local talent.

While Flyover offers the opportunity to its theatres to share movies, the Chicago location currently only offers its own unique “Believe Chicago” experience. FlyOver America for example offers both the America and Hawaii experience, while the Las Vegas location offers three movies, including the Icelandic version. Flyover Chicago operates daily from 11 am to 8 pm, extending its hours until 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Ticket prices range from $14.95 for children to $24.95 for adults.
