Adventureland (Altoona, IA – U.S.A.) is scheduled to reopen for the summer season on 18 May. The park celebrates its 50th anniversery and reopens its iconic dark ride Underground. The famous ride, which originally opened in 1996, remained closed in 2023 for a large refurbishment.

Underground is an indoor rollercoaster that takes its guests on an mission through a mine, in search of Sheriff Sam’s infamous lost gold. While travelling deeper into the abandoned mine, riders face all kinds of challenges, twists and learn about the hidden secrets along the way.

The attraction was completely refurbished over the past year. The majority of the track of the wooden rollercoaster by Custom Coasters International was renewed, while the trains were renovated by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters. The scenes were also updated, of which the park’s website states: “Incorporating new technology and effects, guests will find themselves in a story-driven experience like never before.”

Apart from reopening Underground, the park is celebrating its 50th birthday in multiple ways, including the addition of a new restaurant and multiple events under the name of ‘Festival of Decades’. The park is set to reopen on Saturday 18 May 2024.
