Disneyland Resort Paris has been working on the creation of their new themed area Avengers Campus since 2019. The new area includes the Avengers Assemble: Flight Force-rollercoaster (a retheme of the former Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster) and the highly anticipated interactive dark ride Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure. Today, the resort finally announced the opening date for this new area at the Walt Disney Studios park. The new theme zone, based on the Marvel-film franchise, is set to open on 20 July.

Work on the new themed zone began in 2019, when the park closed two of its rides: indoor roller coaster Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster and special effects show Armageddon – Les Effets Speciaux. While the roller coaster would be rethemed, the Armageddon special effects show was demolished to make way for the new dark ride Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure. The park already announced the opening of the zone in ‘summer 2022’, but today marked the release of a new video including the opening date of 20 July 2022. The special video features Walt Disney Imagineering Art Director Beth Clapperton and Marvel actors Tom Holland and Brie Larson.

Eyecatcher in te new area is the brand ne w dark ride Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure, which is an almost exact copy of W.E.B. Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure which opened last year in Disney California Adventure. Riders of the dark ride are invited into the workshop of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (W.E.B.). Here they meet Peter Parker (Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland), who tells riders about the new Spider-Bots that were invented at W.E.B.. Unfortunately, the bots are out of control and riders are asked to help catching them.

Riders board special W.E.B. Slinger vehicles transporting them through the ride. The vehicles are equiped with special motion sensors, tracking the hand motion of riders in a similar way as the Kinect system does. This enables riders flick their wrist and throw webs with the xact same movement as Spider-Man does, after which the thrown webs appear on large screens. By throwing webs, riders catch the spider bots.

Avengers Campus, along with Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure, marks the first new themed area in Walt Disney Studios, which is part of a larger expansion plan for the park including the addition of two more zones in the upcoming years. Recent pictures of the construction site show that the area had a major overhaul, including among others the planting of many trees. Apart from both new rides, the zone includes several food counters and restaurants and a couple of Marvel-based experiences.
