Last year’s closure of Silver Dollar City’s Fire in the Hole marked the end of an era. The classic dark ride, which debuted in 1972, bid farewell on December 30th to make way for new developments. At the same time, Silver Dollar City began construction of a brand-new Fire in the Hole, positioned at a different location within the park. The opening date for this revamped version of the ride has been revealed: precisely three months following the closure of its predecessor, the new Fire in the Hole will be opened.

Fire in the Hole was a combination of an indoor rollercoaster and dark ride. The attraction opened in 1972 and was designed by Herschend Family Entertainment, owner of Silver Dollar City. The ride’s theme was based on the history of the town of Marmaros, a former village near the location of Silver Dollar City. The new version of the ride is “Signifying our biggest investment in a single attraction, Fire in the Hole continues Silver Dollar City’s strategic, multi-phased growth plan,” stated Brad Thomas, President of the Silver Dollar City Company in a press-release earlier this year.

The park is spending $30 million on the reimagined attraction, is said to be “bigger, better and more fun than ever” in a promotional video for the attraction. It tells a local story about Marmaros. The town in the Ozark Mountains was set on fire by notorious vigilantes by the name of the Baldknobbers. Riders will encounter Silver Dollar City on fire and must band together to battle the fire and save the town.

Construction of the five-story-tall show building has been in progress for a considerable time, and numerous images showcasing the interior of the ride have been unveiled in recent months. The attraction boasts a multi-level layout of 460 meters, featuring twists, drops and splashdowns and is crafted by the American manufacturer Rocky Mountain Construction, best known for their expertise in converting wood-to-steel roller coasters.
