Description
Spaceship Earth is the symbolic spherical structure located centrally in the EPCOT park. The sphere houses a dark ride, taking riders on a journey through time showing how advancements in communications have brought people from the entire world together.
On the return journey from the highest point of the ride, the narrative story ends and guests are invited to interact with on-board screens to give a visual representation of how they would prefer life in the future to look like. The subsequent images include guests photos that were taken at an earlier point on the ride.
History
Space ship Earth had multiple updates over the course of time. Most notable are the additions of scenes incorporating the most recent developments in communication. In 2007 the ride received a major update, adding an interactive system to the ride's vehicles where riders can create their own future. Moreover, the ride received a new soundtrack by Bruce Broughton and new narration by actress Judi Dench.
Spaceship Earth is due to undergo a major refurbishment, in the light of the large refurbishment of the EPCOT park. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic this refurbishment is currently put on hold, leaving the ride open to the public.
