Description
Piraten in Batavia is located in the Dutch section of the park. Riders are joining the pirate Robbemond and sail from the Netherlands to the city of Batavia (a former Dutch colony) in East Asia. Here Robbemond tries to find the magical Fire Tiger, but he encounters his rival Cortez. During the ride guests pass along Indonesian villages, the city of Batavia, fighting pirates and a temple hidden in the jungle.
Hofmann Figuren, Garner Holt, LifeFormations and Sally Dark Rides manufactured the various animatronics for the ride. Decorations are built by diverse companies, of which Jora Vision is known to have built the buildings of the city of Batavia.
'"Piraten in Batavia" is Dutch for ''Pirates in Batavia''.
History
The original Piraten in Batavia opened in 1987 but sadly was destroyed in a fire on 26 May 2018. The new ride is a complete redesign and opened on 28 July 2020. Although the theme and atmosphere remained, the storyline and the sequence of the scenes has largely changed.
There is a large amount of references to the original ride including re-used animatronics in the ''boat of survivors'' in the Battle Scene as well as the large parrot in the queue which originally guarded the entrance.
The music for the original 1987 version of the ride was written by Joachim Schnitzer from Calren Studios and served as the basis for the later, rearranged soundtrack. For the 2020 Batavia the music was rearranged again, and largely based on this later variant. It was recorded by T-REX Classics.
During the 2022 season, some effects were added like projections of soldiers and canon balls hitting the defensive wall in the battle scene.
