Description
Geisterschloss is a classic ghost train spanning 2 floors and one of the oldest dark rides at Wiener Prater. A very short portion of the ride is traversed in daylight.
"Geisterschloss" is German for "Haunted Castle".
It costs €3,50 to ride.
History
It opened in 1955. It was built in 1948 shortly after the original Geisterschloss from 1933 was destroyed in World War II. It used to belong to Friedrich Holzdorfer and is still in possession of the Holzdorfer family.
The exterior has underwent many changed over the years. In 1985 a large gorilla was added to the right side of the building, manufactured by the German Hofmann Figuren. When the gorilla was destroyed in a fire in 2002, an almost exact copy was put back in its place.
The ticket booth is no longer in use (the ride is payed for in the station) and an animatronic has been put inside the booth.
