Description
Abenteuer Atlantis is an interactive dark ride built in the basement of the Greek village in Europa-Park. The theme of the ride is based on the mythical city Atlantis, which is being explored by Professor Carter and his turtle sidekick T-01. Riders can shoot targets to collect points and compete for the high-score.
With the help of a joystick, riders can steer the Omnimover in the desired direction. The score is kept track of inside the vehicles and a high-score table is displayed at the exit. The colour of the target determines the amount of points it gives:
- Green: 100 points
- Blue: 250 points
- Red: ? points
The red targets can only be hit once and give large amount of points, ranging from 10,000 to 30,000. As of 2022, there are 8 red targets and some are hidden very well.
"Abenteuer Atlantis" is German for "Atlantis Adventure".
History
Abenteuer Atlantis was designed by Michel den Dulk of Efteling and Disney fame. Originally, Mack's Dark Ride Interactive system was to be used (as seen on Discovery Club) but after visiting Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast in Paris, Den Dulk insisted on Mack developing a similar Omnimover system. The ride was constructed in a short amount of time in the existing basement of the Greek area of the park.
The character of Professor Carter is modelled and named after Ged Carter, an English painter and modeller who worked on various rides in Europa-Park and Alton Towers.
The original soundtrack was composed by Maarten Hartveldt, who worked with Den Dulk before on projects at Efteling. A new soundtrack by IMAscore replaced the original during the summer of 2020.
During the summer of 2021, the scene with the crab was redone with fluorescent lights and painting.
