Disneyland (Anaheim, CA – U.S.A.) celebrates the new year with a new attraction. Today marks the official opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a new immersive trackless dark ride. The ride is located in Mickey’s Toon Town, a cartoon-styled area that also includes the Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin dark ride. This section of the park was closed for renovations since March 2022 and is now reopening with the new dark ride.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a copy of the ride with the same name at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Orlando, FL – U.S.A.) that opened in 2020. Riders of the attraction go on a train ride with Goofy. Of course, it doesn’t really go according to plan. An accidental switch uncouples the cars of the train. They are now on the loose, crossing several cartoon landscapes while Mickey and Minnie try to get the train back on track. The attraction makes clever use of a trackless car ride system. Starting as a train ride, but then progressing into a car ride with three separate moving vehicles.

The attraction pays homage to the original Mickey Mouse cartoons in several ways. The characters in the ride have a more classic look, especially Mickey and Minnie, there are many references to old cartoons and a sign on a gate after the first scene says ‘1928’, the year that Mickey Mouse debuted in the Steamboat Willie-cartoon.

Over the last few days, Disneyland held previews of the attraction, resulting in the first POVs surfacing online. While the attraction itself does not show any changes compared to the Hollywood Studios original at first sight, the queue line is said to be different and improved.
