Description
Le Palais d'Ali Baba, also known as Het Paleis van Ali Baba in Dutch, was a free flow boat ride took guests past various scenes which were loosely based on the Arabian Nights. After a small drop, you would sail through the Sultan's Palace, the ''Magical Palace'' that was suspended in the air and lit fluorescently, past Ali Baba who plunders the treasure cave of the Forty Thieves, Sindbad the Sailor who ran his ship into a sea serpent, and finally ended up in a busy market. About 120 animatronics were present in the 6.000 m² building.
"Le Palais d'Ali Baba" is French for "The Palace of Ali Baba."
History
Originally a specially composed soundtrack was made for the ride, but later on some of the tracks were swapped out for stock / film music.
Following the Six Flags buyout of the Walibi Group, Palais d'Ali Baba was barely maintained, after which it was decided to not reopen the ride after the 2001 season. Only during Halloween events in the years thereafter, the palace would once again reopen its doors and be used as a haunted house (The 1001 Nights of Horror). Guests were now expected to walk through the gutter. Most of the original theming was kept intact but the animatronics were cheaply disfigured to fit the Halloween theme.
Part of the building was replaced by the Popcorn Revenge dark ride in 2019, for which the entirety of the remaining Ali Baba decor was removed. The leftover part of the building continues to house a maze during Halloween.
