Description
Knights Ride Tower is an enclosed free fall of 20 metres, with a medieval theme. It is based on a folk tale told in the Salzburg region in which a knight, in order to marry the daughter of the count, has to traverse the dangerous mountain Babylon within 1 hour. When the devil blows his horn at midnight, creatures like dragons and griffins roam the mountain.
The entrance is located at the base of the tower, and the queue is a short walkthrough in which a dragon in a cave can be seen. The ride contains 4 dark ride scenes, which are viewed while slowly going up. The first one depicts the knight set off, the second one the devil blowing his horn. Then in the third scene, various creatures are encountered. Finally in the last scene, the griffin attacks and the drop happens in complete darkness.
After the drop, a severed talon of the griffin appears in the floor, indicating the knight was able to overtake the beast.
The transport system incorporates effects like 'claws' of the griffin being felt in the backrest when it attacks.
History
The animatronics were supplied by an unknown Chinese company. The dragon bears a striking resemblance to that of ''La Tanière du Dragon'', the walkthrough under Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland Paris.
