Description
Große Geisterbahn is a classic ghost train spanning 2 floors owned by Koidl Vergnügungsbetriebe. It is the largest ghost train of Wiener Prater and even presents itself as being the largest of its kind in all of Europe. The ride features many fully mechanical effects as well as animatronics. A notable scene is that of a bridge which appears to collapse as you ride over it.
The ride is currently being refurbished but is scheduled to reopen sometime in October 2023.
"Große Geisterbahn" is German for "Large Ghost Train".
More information on Große Geisterbahn can be found in our special: Große Geisterbahn at Wiener Prater is getting ready to reopen: a backstage tour.
History
Große Geisterbahn was bought by Koidl Vergnügungsbetriebe, who also own Eisberg, from the previous owner in 2018.
Originally on this spot was a similar ghost train called Grosse Alte Geisterbahn. It was made primarily of wood and burned down in 1983. The current version, made from stone and concrete, opened in its place in April 1985.
