Universal Studios Florida has soft-opened Revenge of the Mummy. The enclosed rollercoaster had been closed for a refurbishment since January. Last week, the park has reopened the ride for technical rehearsals. For the upcoming period, the ride may operate throughout the day, without a set time schedule.

The refurbishment of Revenge of the Mummy took almost 9 months. During this period, Universal Studios Florida did not disclose much information on what kind of changes could be expected. News website Spectrum News 1 can tell that the theme and storyline remains the same, including fan favourite queue line video featuring actor Brendan Fraser remains. The ride itself received mostly a technical update with enhanced visual effects and an updated animatronic at the beginning of the ride.

Revenge of the Mummy is based on the movie ‘The Mummy‘ (1999), starring Brendan Fraser. The ride in Florida originally opened in 2004, shortly after the version in Universal Studios Hollywood. A third version of the ride opened in 2010 in Universal Studios Singapore. All three versions of the ride are very similar and follow the same storyline, though the one at Hollywood is slightly smaller.

In the storyline of the ride, guests are invited into the Museum of Antiquities where they join the film set of the fictional film ‘Revenge of the Mummy’. They board the ride vehicles which start of in a dark ride section, where it becomes clear that the fictional curse from the film is actually real. Powered by the curse, the coaster train is launched into the rollercoaster part of the ride.

The rollercoaster was built by Premier Rides in cooperation with Dynamic Attractions. It has a length of 670 meters (2,200 feet), top speed of 64 km/h (40 mph) and a maximum height of 14 meters (46 feet).
