PortAventura Park is getting ready to open their new semi-dark ride based on the Uncharted franchise. Today, the park announced on Twitter the full name of the enclosed roller coaster to be Uncharted: El Enigma de Penitence (The Enigma of Penitence). In addition, the official opening date has been revealed to be 17 June 2023.

The park posted a 30-second promotional video showing a group of adventurers diving after a vehicle which is falling into a ravine. After managing to strap themselves in and opening a secret passageway down below, the vehicle disappears inside a tunnel. A roller coaster ride through a cave filled with treasure follows in the 12 seat vehicle, ending with a surprise launch backwards. A sign of what may be to come on the ride.

While the park is still maintaining a mystery around what exactly awaits us inside Uncharted: El Enigma de Penitence, past December some technical specifications were announced. The so-called Multi Dimension Coaster by Intamin will consist of a little under 700 metres of track, featuring no less then 5 launch sections. At least one of these will be backwards, according to the video.

The building, found within the Far West area of the park has a surface of 4,800 m2. The theming will be supplied by Sally Dark Rides, who previously worked on PortAventura’s first dark ride Sesame Street – Street Mission, which opened in 2019. The ride’s indoor section and theming is designed by Sally Dark Rides, Uncharted being their first semi-dark ride rollercoaster.
