Six Flags over Texas (Arlington, TX – United States) has announced that they will open a new dark ride for the 2022 season. “Pirates of Speelunker Cave” will be replacing the old Yosemite Sam & The Gold River dark ride. Six Flags over Texas will be celebrating the park’s 60th anniversary with this new ride.

According to a press-release on the park’s website, Pirates of Speelunker Cave will be a “state-of-the-art attraction that will place guests squarely in the middle of a pirate treasure hunt thwarted by resident Speelunkers.” The ride is said to be a re-imagining of the ‘Cave’ dark ride, that operated from 1964 to 1991. The attraction will use the original boat ride system. 26 six-passenger boats will take riders for a journey along 17 scenes that combine cinematic projections with physical sets and animatronics.

The original boat ride system was used for the Yosemite Sam & The Gold River dark ride from 1992 to 2018. That ride was designed by Sally Dark Rides. Six Flags over Texas did not announce any design or manufacturing company for the new dark ride.
