Welcome to the Dark Ride Database explaination page
We love looking for new rides to add to the database. Some rides however have more cause for discussion than others. To help you understand some of the choices we’ve made we put together these two table shown below. If you have any questions about these rides, please contact us at [email protected].
Rejected rides
The following rides have been discussed by the editors team or were added by our users, but were rejected for an entry in the Dark Ride Database. In the last collumn you can find the reason of rejection.
Country | Park | Ride | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
France | Disneyland Paris - Disneyland Park | Hyperspace Mountain | This indoor rollercoaster contains attributes and projection screens, but no real scenes. |
Disneyland Paris - Disneyland Park | Mystères du Nautilus | No ride system. | |
Disneyland Paris - Disneyland Park | Passage Enchanté d'Aladdin | No ride system. | |
Disneyland Paris - Disneyland Park | Pays des Contes de Fées | The ride contains only one dark ride scene. | |
Germany | Bayern Park | Rundbootfahrt | The ride contains only one dark ride scene. |
Europa-Park | Alpenexpress Enzian | The rollercoaster Alpenexpress Enzian and log flume Tiroler Wasserbahn both enter the "Zauberwelt der Diamanten" building. The Tiroler Wasserbahn features a number of scenes in this indoor area. Even though these scenes are also visable from the Alpenexpress Enzian, we count them as part of the Tiroler Wasserbahn. | |
Europa-Park | Jim Knopf - Reise durch Lummeland | The ride contains only one dark ride scene. | |
Europa-Park | Whale Adventures - Northern Lights | This splash battle actually contains two indoor scenes (right after the station and before the return). However, there is too much daylight in the second scene to count is as a dark ride scene. | |
Fort Fun | Wild River | The ride contains only one dark ride scene. | |
Tripsdrill | Badewannenfahrt zum Jungbrunnen | This ride only contains one dark ride scene. There is too much daylight in the tower scenes to count as dark ride scenes. | |
Phantasialand | Chiapas | The ride contains only one dark ride scene. | |
Netherlands | Efteling | Baron 1898 | The ride system contains only one dark ride scene. |
Efteling | Spookslot | No ride system. | |
Efteling | Vogel Rok | This indoor rollercoaster contains attributes but no real scenes. | |
Efteling | Zes Zwanen | The ride system contains only one dark ride scene. | |
Spain | Parque de Atracciones Monte Igueldo | Río Misterioso | The ride contains only one dark ride scene. |
Parque Warner Madrid | Río Bravo | There is scenery on each top of the two lifthills. However, they do not contain enough elements of a scene. |
Rides in the database
The following rides are part of the database, but were also subject of discussion. The table below states all rides that were discussed, including its clasisfication. The last collumn explains why the ride recieved its specific classification.
Country | Park | Ride | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Germany | Movie Park Germany | Van Helsing's Factory | Semi-Dark Ride: This indoor rollercoaster features multiple scenes along the ride, but also two large sections in complete darkness. These sections qualify it as semi-dark ride. |
Phantasialand | F.L.Y. | Semi-Dark Ride: F.L.Y. contains an indoor part between the station and the first launch. These parts that can be devided in two, contains scenery that contain all elements to qualify as a semi-dark ride. However, it qualifies as the bare minimum. | |
Schwaben Park | Azura | Dark Ride: Azura is not a conventinal dark ride. The whole boat ride takes place in one single room and riders will watch a light, fire and fountain show, combined with a soundtrack. It still has a dark ride feeling, even though conventional scenes in the ride are missing. | |
Italy | Cinecittà World | Inferno | Semi-Dark Ride: This indoor rollercoaster features multiple scenes along the ride, but also large sections in complete darkness. These sections qualify it as semi-dark ride. |
Netherlands | Continium Discovery Center | Time Warp Theater | Simulator: This ride contains a trackless car ride system developed by ETF Rides Systems. However, it takes place in one single room with projections on the walls. The cars ratate in circles, making movements comparable to the teacups flat-rides. A classification as a dark ride does not fit, but it does for a show ride. The database does not have a better fitting ride type as 'simulator'. |
United Kingdom | Postal Museum | Mail Rail | Semi-Dark Ride: The Mail Rail was built in former subway tunnels. Eventhough the ride is completely enclosed (and underground), it classifies as a semi-dark ride. There are a lot of sections inside tunnels that do not contain any scenes. |
United States | Universal Studios Florida | Revenge of the Mummy | Semi-Dark Ride: Revenge of the Mummy starts off with dark ride section. However, the majority of the rollercoaster part takes place inside a large hall without scenes. This makes the ride qualificy as a semi-dark ride. |
Universal Studios Hollywood | Revenge of the Mummy | Semi-Dark Ride: Revenge of the Mummy starts off with dark ride section. However, the majority of the rollercoaster part takes place inside a large hall without scenes. This makes the ride qualificy as a semi-dark ride. | |
Walt Disney World - Disney's Hollywood Studios | Twilight Zone Tower of Terror | Tower Ride: Even though cars move in a horizontal direction during the ride, the majority of the ride takes place in elevators, therefor it was decided to categorize it as a tower ride. |
