P&P Projects is a well established theming design and manufacturing company, based in the Netherlands. During the IAAPA Expo Europe, they revealed the launch of a new subdivision: ThemedMotion. It is fully dedicated to the development of animatronics. This is a logical next step for the company, as they have been delivering turnkey projects for many years now and this expands upon their in-house services on offer.
During the expo, the company revealed their first creation: ”Mormel” (meaning something like ”ugly creature” in Dutch). With its realistic looks and nearly thirty movement functions, it was quite the attention grabber. The little alien-like creature was programmed by professional animators and has 21 actuators inside of it to control its motions.
But it is not just good looks and big numbers that sets ThemedMotion apart from the crowd. Following extensive market research, the subdivision aims to provide the high durability and reliability that the industry is craving for. This is achieved through the development of a proprietary show control which includes remote monitoring, allowing for continuous check-ins on its components. In case of a defect or over-heating of components, the system can seamlessly switch over to a ”B-Mode”, preventing further damages. Another core value is innovation. The system can receive inputs as well, so that animatronics can be made interactive.
P&P Projects was founded in 1989 by Philipp van Stratum and started out with supplying scale models of rocket ships. After coming into contact with Disneyland Paris to supply such models, their focus shifted more and more towards supplying theming for the leisure industry. Having created some simpler animatronics in the past, like the giant King Kong in Movie Park Studio Tour (Movie Park Germany), the formation of ThemedMotion sees a long-cherished wish of the team coming true.
