Merlin Entertainments owns a large series of Lego(land) Discovery Centers around the world. Today, the company announced the expansion of their operation with Lego Discovery Center Washington DC. The new center will be located in the Springfield Town Center, just outside Washington in Springfield (VA, U.S.A.). It will be the second rebranded Lego Discovery Center, after the centre in Brussels.

Legoland Discovery Centers are small indoor attractions that feature a Lego Miniworld, play areas, a couple rides and a dark ride. Older centers contain a Kingdom Quest ride, but the newer centers contain an Imagination Express. Both rides were developed by Merlin Magic Making, Alterface and ETF Ride Systems. In a press-release, Merlin Entertainments has not announced a dark ride for the center yet, but it is expected to receive an Imagination Express.

Lego(land) Discovery Centers are especially targeted at children. Unlike the Legoland theme parks, adults are not granted acces to a Discovery Center without accompaning a child.

Lego Discovery Center Washington DC will be located in Town Center in Springfield, Virginia, just outside Washington, and is scheduled to open in 2023.
