Description
Nemesis: Sub-Terra is an indoor drop tower attraction with a horror theme building on the nearby roller coaster Nemesis. Guests visit an underground research facility to see a recently discovered egg from the Nemesis creature. A breach occurs and the egg appears to have hatched, at which point the ride drops deeper into a cavern with further eggs and effects.
Upon returning to the top, guests enter a false elevator sequence and a short walk-through, before exiting the building.
History
After an initial opening in March 2012, Nemesis: Sub-Terra closed for a revamp and reopened later that Spring. The revamp was largely carried out in-house by Alton Towers due to negative feedback from guests and park management. This included additional audio, effects, and the addition of the final corridor.
The ride closed in August 2015 after a modification to the restraints system caused issues and the high attraction staffing was deemed too costly to operate. After a long period of closure, the ride eventually re-opened on 27 May 2023 while Nemesis was closed for retracking and has so far remained open. The only alterations after reopening include a refreshed preshow video and revamp of the final corridor with a decontamination theme.
