Description
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Ride was a dark boat ride combined with a simulator, based on the famous novel by the same name by Roald Dahl.
The attraction reused the boat ride system from its previous incarnations, but was expanded with a new simulator ride themed as the Great Glass Elevator to end the experience. The boat ride was shortened to add a new offload platform to allow guests to disembark and board the simulator. The Great Glass Elevator used multiple screens and a motion floor in a standing environment.
History
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Ride is a retheme of the Toyland Tours dark ride. The attraction closed in 2015 and was later rethemed to the Alton Towers Dungeon, which opened in 2019. The rethemed boat ride is part of the Dungeon experience, and is now called the Black River Boat Ride.
