Long-awaited Malaysian theme park Genting SkyWorlds started its soft-openings in early 2021, but has operated with a reduced number of rides ever since. After 9 long years, counting from the construction announcement to the park first opening day, there are still a handful of rides, including dark rides, which have remained closed to the public. One of these was the dark ride Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice. Over the last weeks however, this ride has finally opened to the public as well in a soft-opening.
Pictures and short video snippets coming from the park since 16 September show details on Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice, which appeared to have opened since that date. Riders initially enter a pre-show room, where a short video plays. After that, they board the 8-seater trackless vehicles, supplied by Oceaneering, setting out on an adventure during which they meet the well-known characters from the Ice Age-franchise. As far as footage shows, the ride seems to contain a variety of extensively themed sets and animatronics, alternated with projection screens.

At this moment, only two of the announced rides at Genting SkyWorlds remain “currently unavailable during the sort-opening period”. First of these is Planet of the Apes, a 3D attraction based on the most recent remakes of the Planet of the Apes film series. The other is a Dynamic Attractions SFX roller coaster, though the team of Dynamic Attractions recently mentioned at IAAPA Expo Europe that they had good hopes to open this ride in the upcoming months.
