This week the U.K. theme park Alton Towers opened their new themed area The World of David Walliams to public. The new area includes a brand new dark ride: Gangsta Granny: The Ride. The ride is based on the characters from the children’s books by David Walliams. Both ride and area were originally scheduled for the 2020 season, but due to the Covid-pandemic the park needed to postpone the opening until 2021.

After entering The World of David Walliams, visitors cannot miss the large building of the Royal Alton Hall. The building is home to the Crown Jewels Tour, and visitors are invited to see these jewels. After boarding the ride vehicles, visitors are welcomed to the tour by David Walliams himself, but shortly afterwards their tour is interrupted by Gangsta Granny and her grandson Ben. They invlove the riders in the biggest jewel heist in history, making for a crazy adventure.

Gangsta Granny: The Ride uses a combination of projections screens and real sets to bring the jewel heist to life. The ride is designed by Merlin Magic Making in co-operation with David Walliams, while the ride system is manufactured by Garmendale.
