Busch Gardens Williamburg (VA, U.S.A.) once housed the well-known dark ride Curse of DarKastle. That ride closed in 2017, after 13 years of operation, and the ride building has sat empty ever since. Over the last years, rumours arose that the park was looking into a new ride to take the place of the former dark ride. Today, Busch Gardens officially revealed the plans for DarKoaster, a highly themed enclosed roller coaster.

Rumours of a roller coaster by the name DarKoaster replacing the dark ride has been around for almost a year. However, until now it was not known what the new ride would be like and whether it would still include dark ride elements. With the announcement of the new ride officially revealed today, Busch Gardens claims that DarKoaster will be a “family-friendly dark ride experience”. The roller coaster, presented as the world’s first all-indoor straddle coaster, takes riders on snowmobiles for a dark expedition to discover mysterious whether phenomena taking place around the abandoned castle of King Ludwig. It is however not sure whether the enclosed coaster includes actual scenes, making it qualify as a semi-dark ride.
