New Malaysian theme park Genting SkyWorlds, which opened for the first time earlier this year, has been continuing to operate with a reduced number of attractions. After 9 long years from construction announcement to the park first opening, there are still a handful of rides, including dark rides, which have remained closed to the public. Recent news suggests that these additional rides will open by February 2023.
Beyond the 23 attractions currently operating at the park, including several listed dark rides, the park website has three rides following listed as ‘currently unavailable during the soft opening period‘. First of these is Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice, a trackless dark ride based around the Ice Age film franchise. The second ride that still awaits opening is Invasion of the Planet of the Apes, a 3D attraction based on the most recent remakes of the Planet of the Apes film series, which will represent the only ride in the ‘Liberty Lane’ themed area of the park. The third ride is a Dynamic Attractions SFX rollercoaster.
A recent article from local Malaysian news source, which focused on the implementation of virtual queuing technology within the park suggested that a further three attractions, including the 2 dark rides, are currently scheduled to open in February 2023. This would mark the one year anniversary of the parks soft opening on 8th February 2022. It is however not believed that the SFX Coaster is also referred to in the recent news. This ride may face further delays, as experienced with it’s counterpart at Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi.
